Basándose en el éxito de EXCITE, EXCITE² involucra a 18 instalaciones europeas de microscopía electrónica y de rayos X. Estas instalaciones brindan acceso gratuito a su instrumentación y comparten sus conocimientos y experiencia para impulsar la I+D en la investigación de materiales.
